ICC Chief Prosecutor Kerim Han Suspended Pending Disciplinary Review

The Office of the Assembly of States Parties (ASP) of the International Criminal Court (ICC) has referred the disciplinary case involving Chief Prosecutor Kerim Han to the ASP for a special session. The ASP Bureau announced that a qualified majority of its member states voted to suspend Han from his duties while the ASP deliberates on a final decision. The suspension does not constitute a final judgment; the ASP will keep related documents confidential until a conclusive ruling is made.

The disciplinary process stems from sexual‑harassment allegations that emerged after Han requested arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defence Minister Yoav Gallant. Following those allegations, Han voluntarily took leave in May 2025. An independent three‑judge panel appointed by the ICC in March 2026 found no evidence of misconduct. Han has previously described the proceedings as “unprecedented” and said the process “has shocked” him.

The ASP, composed of 125 states parties to the Rome Statute, will convene a special meeting to determine Han’s ultimate status within the Court.
