ICC Prosecutor Karim Khan Suspended Amid Legal Dispute

The International Criminal Court’s chief prosecutor, Karim Khan, was placed on suspension by the court’s oversight body. Khan publicly condemned the move, saying the procedure violated the ICC’s own rules and was “unlawful,” “astonishing,” and “unjustified.” In an interview with Al Arabiya, he argued that the bureau handling his case acted beyond its authority and failed to follow established disciplinary guidelines.

The suspension has sparked debate over the ICC’s internal governance and its credibility as a global tribunal. Critics warn that removing Khan, or a potential further removal slated for July, could undermine confidence in the court’s ability to administer justice for crimes such as genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity.
