ICC confirms LA28 Olympic cricket qualifiers for early 2028

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced that the qualifying tournaments for the men’s and women’s cricket competitions at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics will take place in January and February 2028. This marks the sport’s return to the Olympic Games after 128 years.

In the women’s competition, Australia, India, South Africa, and Great Britain have already secured direct qualification based on their performances at the Women’s T20 World Cup. For the men’s tournament, automatic qualification will be determined by ICC T20I rankings as of December 31, 2026, with the highest-ranked eligible teams from Africa, Asia, Europe, and Oceania earning spots.

As the host nation, the United States is eligible for direct entry into both competitions, provided their men’s and women’s teams maintain a ranking within the top 15 during the specified qualification window between June and December 2026. The qualifying events were originally slated for 2027 but have been rescheduled to closer to the Games.
