ICE agents detain man outside Santa Fe health clinic
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents detained a man in the parking lot of the La Familia Health clinic in Santa Fe on Wednesday morning. According to clinic officials, the man was accompanied by his minor child at the time of the arrest. The agents reportedly blocked the man’s vehicle in the parking lot on Alto Street. The child was not detained and was subsequently released to a family member.
Congresswoman Teresa Leger Fernandez indicated that the incident may have been part of a broader immigration enforcement operation in the Santa Fe area, noting that at least eight people were detained.
La Familia Health, a Federally Qualified Health Center serving underserved communities, expressed concern that such enforcement actions near medical facilities could create a chilling effect, discouraging patients from seeking necessary healthcare. Jasmin Milz, the organization’s chief marketing and development officer, stated that the incident could impact both community health and clinic operations.
