ICE agent's firearm found unattended at San Francisco International Airport

An Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent left a firearm unattended in a men’s restroom at San Francisco International Airport (SFO) on July 21. The weapon was discovered by a flight attendant in a stall located past the Terminal 2 security checkpoint.

Following the discovery, airport security closed the restroom and contacted emergency services. San Francisco Police Department officers arrived on the scene and remained present when the ICE agent returned to retrieve the firearm. It remains unclear how long the weapon was left unattended or the specific reason for the agent's presence at the airport.

The airport has referred the incident to the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) for follow-up. The discovery occurred one day prior to the arrest of Iryna Gorb, a Ukrainian national, at the same airport. SFO officials stated that the airport does not participate in federal immigration enforcement, maintaining consistency with San Francisco’s sanctuary city policies.
