Zacatecas pushes new disappearance law and forensic searches to aid missing‑person cases
The Fiscalía General de Justicia del Estado de Zacatecas led a socialisation meeting on a draft decree that would establish a dedicated state law on disappearance and search of persons. Attendees included Attorney General Cristian Paul Camacho Osnaya, legislator Guadalupe Isadora Santivañez Ríos, specialized prosecutor Deisy Janett Montes Márquez, director of forensic services Rubí Sánchez Noriega, local search commissioner Everardo Ramírez Aguayo and legal coordinator José Antonio Escalante Ramírez, together with members of families‑search collectives.
The proposal seeks to harmonise six existing legal orders in Zacatecas, strengthen investigation, prevention and coordination of disappearance cases, and improve cooperation with the national commission and local authorities. In parallel, the state government carried out an individualized forensic search in the municipality of Vetagrande, applying specialized techniques to locate and identify missing persons.
These steps aim to address Zacatecas’ historically high disappearance rates and provide more robust legal and investigative tools for victims’ families.
