ICE agents mistakenly detain and injure U.S. citizen in Evanston

An Evanston resident and U.S. citizen was injured during a mistaken detention by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents. The incident occurred on a Sunday morning near the 1700 block of Howard Street during a fugitive investigation.

According to the Evanston Police Department, agents attempted to detain an individual they believed resembled a suspect. The man, a local resident, reported injuries to his head, neck, and teeth. Federal agents later determined he was not the person they were seeking. One agent reported that the individual resisted detention and refused to provide identification.

Video footage from the scene shows the man lying facedown on a sidewalk while agents attempted to detain him. The agents eventually left the area in a black SUV after protesters began to gather, citing fears of being attacked.
