ICE arrests Brazilian national charged with vehicular homicide in Massachusetts

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers from the Boston office arrested Heriton Da Silva Aredes in Taunton, Massachusetts. Aredes, a Brazilian national, is currently facing charges for vehicular homicide.

According to ICE, Aredes had been released from state and local custody on three separate occasions despite ICE detainers being issued. Acting ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations Boston Field Office Director David Wesling stated that the releases occurred due to sanctuary policies. Aredes had previously been removed from the United States in 2008 and later illegally reentered the country.

His criminal record includes convictions for assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, reckless driving, and using a false name. Local officials, including Bristol County Sheriff Paul Heroux, have been criticized by ICE leadership for non-cooperation regarding the detainers.
