ICE arrests father, separates child in El Paso immigration raid

Federal immigration agents detained 11‑year‑old J. R. C. and his father, Jesus Eduardo Reyes Hermes, outside their home in El Paso, Texas on April 28. The agents put on gloves and seized the pair, saying “Se pusieron los guantes y nos agarraron así con muchas fuerzas.” After the arrest, the boy was placed in a shelter for unaccompanied minors while his father was transferred to the Camp East Montana detention facility. Reyes Hermes was released on bond in June, but the child remains in the shelter awaiting a deportation flight to Venezuela.

The incident reflects a surge in ICE activity during the Trump administration’s second term, with about 321,700 arrests reported in 2025—nearly three times the previous year’s total.
