U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents arrested 43‑year‑old Roberts Nemiro in San Francisco, California. Nemiro is a Latvian national who appeared on Latvia’s version of "Dancing with the Stars" ("Dejo ar zvaigzni!").

He entered the United States on a visa in October 2011 and remained after the visa expired in August 2012, making him unlawfully present. Federal authorities say his criminal record includes convictions for aggravated assault of a non‑family member with a gun and disorderly conduct, as well as arrests for battery, sexual battery, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Nemiro is being held in ICE custody pending removal proceedings. Department of Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis said, "Despite California being a sanctuary state, ICE was able to arrest this criminal and will soon deport him." The arrest followed a referral from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.
