ICE arrests over 10,000 gang members under Trump-era Secure America Act

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security reported that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has detained more than 10,000 gang affiliates since the start of President Donald Trump's second term. The figure includes members of transnational groups such as MS‑13 and Tren de Aragua, with the 10,000th detainee identified as a Mexican‑born MS‑13 operative.

Officials linked the surge to the Secure America Act, a law passed at the beginning of the month that allocates $38 billion for immigration enforcement through 2029, including $5 billion for technology and screening equipment. Between March 1 and May 31, ICE’s Operation Spring Cleaning resulted in 1,100 arrests, 600 of which led to criminal charges, and the seizure of over a thousand illegal firearms and thousands of pounds of narcotics.

Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin framed the crackdown as a correction of prior administration policies, stating that many of the arrested individuals had been released into the U.S. under the previous government. The department emphasized that the expanded enforcement capacity is intended to remove violent offenders from American communities.
