ICE arrests undocumented truck driver and plans purchase of shock gloves

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has arrested José Carlos Valdivia-Vera, a Cuban national in Florida who was operating a truck with an expired commercial driver's license and an active deportation order. Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin stated that the agency will continue to target undocumented drivers and the businesses that employ them to ensure public safety.

In a separate development, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is planning to spend up to $20 million to equip ICE agents with G.L.O.V.E. (Generated Low Output Voltage Emitter) devices. Manufactured by Compliant Technologies LLC, these gloves deliver electric shocks to non-compliant individuals. While the technology is used by some police departments and prisons, civil rights organizations, including the ACLU, have raised concerns regarding the use of force and oversight during deportation operations.
