ICE conducts deportations and faces detainee protests in US

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has carried out several high-profile enforcement and deportation actions across the United States. In Utah, Nicaraguan national Héctor Luis Castillo Reyes was sentenced to 41 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to possession of fentanyl with intent to distribute. Authorities seized 104,000 pills, weighing approximately 23 pounds, during a traffic stop. Following his sentence, Castillo Reyes faces deportation to Nicaragua.

In Georgia, approximately 73 immigrants at the D. Ray James processing center, managed by GEO Group, have engaged in a hunger strike. Protesters are citing poor medical care, inadequate food, and prolonged detention. The group includes asylum seekers awaiting case resolutions and individuals with deportation orders awaiting transfer.

Additionally, ICE deported Sergio López-Leos to Mexico. López-Leos had a criminal history including a conviction for attempted sexual assault in North Carolina and involvement in a human smuggling case in Texas.

In a separate case in Georgia, the family of Jonathan González is seeking funds via GoFundMe to pay bail for his release from a detention center in Moultrie following his arrest while commuting to work.
