ICE custody deaths exceed 50 since Trump administration began

Reports indicate that more than 50 deaths have occurred in Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody since President Trump took office last year. Among the most recent fatalities was Jose Chajon-Raxon, a Guatemalan immigrant who died in August at the Delaney Hall facility in New Jersey.

Concerns have been raised regarding the conduct of immigration officers during operations. In one instance, Joan Sebastián Durán Guerrero, who reportedly held a valid work permit and was lawfully present in the United States, was shot multiple times by agents. According to his family’s attorney, Durán Guerrero was not the individual ICE was seeking at the time of the shooting.

Since the start of the current administration, immigration officers have reportedly fired upon at least 30 people, resulting in eight deaths. Critics highlight the use of masked agents in tactical gear and unmarked vehicles during these operations, which they argue creates significant confusion and fear.
