ICE detains Berkeley restaurant manager at Oakland airport

Sergio Ivan Chaparro Ayala, a manager at the Oceanview Diner in Berkeley, was detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) at the Oakland San Francisco Bay International Airport on August 28.

Chaparro was traveling with his girlfriend, Estefani Montes, for an anniversary trip to Las Vegas when ICE agents approached them during airport security. Agents informed Chaparro that they had a warrant for his arrest and took him into custody.

Chaparro, a resident of Richmond, has worked at the Oceanview Diner for over four years. Following his arrest, his family and associates have been working to secure legal representation and locate him within the detention system.
