ICE detains Orange County teenager during asylum meeting
Isaac Gallegos, a 19-year-old graduate of Orange High School, was detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) during a routine asylum-related meeting in Charlotte. His family reports that Gallegos arrived in the United States from Honduras in 2016 and has maintained a pending asylum case since that time.
According to his parents, the family sought asylum following violence from gang members in their home country. Gallegos, who has no criminal record, has been working to support his family after a car accident left his father immobile.
North Carolina Senator Jonah Garson stated he has been in contact with the family, the school system, and federal offices regarding the matter. Gallegos has reportedly been transported to a detention facility in Georgia.
