ICE detains two Venezuelan nationals in Florida and Georgia

Two Venezuelan nationals have been detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in separate incidents, highlighting ongoing tensions regarding immigration enforcement.

In Florida, Daniela Portillo was taken into custody and transferred to a detention center in Louisiana after reporting a hit-and-run traffic accident in Polk County. Portillo remained at the scene to comply with procedures, but authorities determined she was not a U.S. citizen. Her legal counsel stated that she has a pending asylum process and valid immigration documents, with no final deportation order against her.

In Georgia, 22-year-old Nayleth Martínez Jiménez was detained on July 17. While in custody, Martínez Jiménez discovered she is pregnant. She has reported experiencing health complications, including dehydration, infections, and severe abdominal pain, which required a hospital transfer. She has raised concerns regarding the adequacy of nutrition and medical care provided during her detention.
