ICE detention centers receive high health ratings despite rising deaths
An analysis by the Government Oversight Project reveals that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has issued high health ratings to its detention centers despite a rise in fatalities and persistent complaints. Under the Trump administration, the number of facilities receiving the highest “superior” rating has tripled since 2024, a trend the report links to weakened detention standards and fewer inspections.
In one specific location, the Adelanto ICE Processing Center, four deaths have been recorded since August 2025, the highest number for any single center during that period. These internal assessments occur amidst reports of poor water quality, untrained staff, and slow medical responses to both acute and chronic conditions.
Simultaneously, intensified ICE enforcement and deportation campaigns are significantly impacting local communities. In areas like Long Island, New York, frequent raids and increased surveillance have disrupted local businesses, separated families, and created a climate of constant psychological distress among immigrant populations.
