ICE Detentions Spur Fundraising Efforts for Affected Migrant Families
Jairo Coronilla Durán, a 28‑year‑old migrant from San Luis de la Paz, Guanajuato, was killed on 14 July after being struck by a vehicle while trying to flee an ICE operation at a gas station in San Agustín, Florida. His family has asked the public for donations to cover the cost of repatriating his body to Mexico, listing bank accounts in Mexico for contributions.
In a separate case, Jorge Vílchez, a Venezuelan restaurateur who runs Caracas Latin Food in El Paso, Texas, was detained by ICE on 17 July while his asylum case remains pending. His relatives have launched a fundraising campaign to pay for legal fees, potential bail and other migration‑related expenses, while the restaurant continues to serve customers.
