ICE enforcement actions target workers in Danville, Pennsylvania

On September 2, immigration enforcement activities in the Danville, Pennsylvania area led to the detention of individuals suspected of being in the country illegally. Mahoning Township Police Chief Fred Dyroff reported that officers conducted traffic stops for alleged violations and transferred individuals to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody.

The enforcement follows a 287(g) agreement entered into by Mahoning Township in April, which allows local officers to assist with certain federal immigration duties. Township Supervisor Chairman Bill Lynn stated that the primary focus of these efforts is on individuals with criminal records.

Conversely, the Centre County Rapid Response Network, an immigrant-rights organization, provided a different account of the events. The group alleged that ICE agents and local police arrested at least 41 workers at an EwingCole construction site located at Geisinger Medical Center. The organization claimed workers were stopped at hospital exits or followed from the property to their homes, and that checkpoints were established near highway entrances.
