ICE increases immigration enforcement in Vermont and New York

In Vermont, at least nine people were arrested during three separate operations last weekend. These incidents included arrests of workers in Londonderry, White River Junction, and Cornwall. Advocacy groups, such as Migrant Justice, have noted that these workplace and commuting arrests are unusual for the state and suggest a pattern of heightened enforcement. An ICE spokesperson stated that the agency is utilizing all lawful options to carry out deportation operations as part of administration goals, noting that raids are routinely conducted across New England.

In New York, ICE has maintained an active presence in neighborhoods like the Bronx. Recent reports and viral footage have highlighted tensions during operations, including an incident where an individual allegedly escaped detention while on a bicycle. In response to increased activity, institutions like Bronx Community College have released information outlining the legal rights of undocumented immigrants when encountering federal agents.
