ICE agent shoots man in Bronx vehicle containing a five-year-old child FAST-MOVING

An Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent shot and wounded a 28-year-old Dominican national, identified as Oscar Belgal, during a targeted enforcement operation in the Marble Hill neighborhood of the Bronx, New York. The incident occurred around 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 8, 2026. Witnesses and New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani reported that agents, wearing masks and construction vests, surrounded Belgal’s vehicle while a five-year-old child was present in the backseat. Multiple rounds were fired, striking Belgal in the neck. The child was reported to be physically unharmed.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) stated the operation aimed to arrest Belgal, describing him as an undocumented immigrant with a criminal record for grand larceny and alleged associations with the Trinitarios gang. DHS noted the incident is under investigation. New York Police Department (NYPD) officials confirmed they were not involved in the shooting and were not on the scene at the time.

The shooting has sparked significant political tension and protests. Mayor Mamdani called the incident “unconscionable and incredibly serious,” stating he contacted President Donald Trump to demand an end to all ICE enforcement actions in New York City. New York Governor Kathy Hochul also expressed outrage, calling for transparency and the release of body camera footage. Protesters have gathered near hospitals and in the streets, demanding that ICE cease operations in the city.
