ICE plans mobile detention vans for immigration operations
ICE is seeking to implement a new method for managing detainees during immigration operations. According to official documents, the agency is bidding on a project to use mobile detention units—specially adapted vans—that would remain near arrest sites to temporarily hold individuals while agents continue their work in the area.
These mobile units are described as an extension of detention centers and would feature interior cages, acrylic panels to separate detainees from drivers, and communication radios. The project includes long-term contracts for four regions, aiming to provide approximately 5,500 beds. Initial implementation is expected in Pennsylvania.
