ICE operations disrupt U.S. beef supply chain and cattle processing

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations in Texas, Oklahoma, and Kansas are disrupting the U.S. beef supply chain, according to cattle industry associations. The Kansas Livestock Association, the Oklahoma Cattlemen’s Association, and the Texas Cattle Feeders Association issued a joint statement warning that these activities have caused a “massive chilling effect” on the workforce, including legal and documented workers who are avoiding employment due to fear of arrest.

The disruptions have led to delays in the shipment and processing of thousands of cattle, resulting in millions of dollars in lost revenue for producers. Industry experts and USDA reports indicate a significant decline in cattle processing and increased volatility in cattle futures. These supply chain interruptions, which affect feedyards, dairies, and transportation hubs, are expected to drive up beef prices for consumers.

In response to broader industry challenges, President Donald Trump has signed executive orders aimed at supporting ranchers and fortifying the American beef industry. Meanwhile, Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin defended the enforcement actions, stating that ICE is targeting “heinous criminals including murderers, rapists, and drug traffickers.”
