ICE resumes vehicle stops with body camera requirements

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has resumed vehicle stops with a new requirement for body camera usage. Following a temporary suspension ordered by the Department of Homeland Security, the resumption comes after two fatal incidents involving ICE agents in Houston and Maine.

Tom Homan, responsible for presidential border policy, confirmed that at least one agent must have an operational body camera during every vehicle stop. These devices must remain turned on throughout the entire intervention. The policy aims to provide documentation of agent actions, though critics note the requirement does not mandate that all agents present wear a device, which may limit recording angles.

The implementation of this measure requires additional resources, including specialized training, data storage for images, and personnel to manage access requests for the recorded footage.
