Ice rink issues reported in Deventer and Vaassen

Ice rink De Scheg in Deventer has failed to open as scheduled due to a defective cooling system. Despite the implementation of an emergency rental installation, technical issues between the old and new systems have prevented the formation of ice, leaving the rink covered in water. Manager Bas Bode noted that while the delay results in lost revenue from schools and recreational skaters, the facility is not facing financial instability.

In Vaassen, a long-standing tradition of natural ice skating is under threat. Local redevelopment plans for the town center, which aim to prioritize parking spaces and event areas, do not include space for the ice rink. This has prompted a petition signed by over 2,500 residents to preserve the site. Local political parties have raised concerns, leading the municipal college to postpone the decision regarding the rink's future.
