Ice rinks in Deventer and Tilburg closed due to technical failures

The start of the skating season in the Netherlands has been disrupted by technical failures at major ice rinks in Deventer and Tilburg.

In Deventer, the De Scheg ice rink is facing a broken cooling system. Management stated the defect cannot be repaired immediately, leaving the opening of the rink uncertain. This closure impacts the upcoming Holland Cup 1, a qualifying event for the Dutch championships.

In Tilburg, the Ireen Wüst Ice Rink is also closed after an installation failure caused the ice to melt. The municipality reported that the top layer of ice has detached from the base, leaving the floor covered in water. Fixing the issue will require removing and rebuilding the entire ice floor, though a smaller central rink may potentially open sooner.

Local skating associations, such as DNIJ from Apeldoorn, are facing significant disruptions to their training schedules. While some clubs are receiving reimbursements for unused hours, officials expressed disappointment over the inability to practice.
