U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has lodged a detainer for Jose Antonio Caballero-Nolasco, an immigrant from El Salvador, following a fatal wrong-way crash on a Maryland freeway.

On August 29, Caballero-Nolasco was driving under the influence on Interstate 270 when he crashed head-on into a vehicle. The collision killed Musammat Shamima Begum, 46, and her daughter, Areebah Jahin, 23. Two other occupants, a 62-year-old man and an 8-year-old girl, survived the accident and were hospitalized.

Caballero-Nolasco faces multiple charges, including two counts of grossly negligent manslaughter, two counts of homicide by motor vehicle while impaired by alcohol, and life-threatening injury by a motor vehicle. The Department of Homeland Security requested that Montgomery County authorities do not release the suspect back onto the streets.
