ICE records 238 arrests in a single day in Texas Rio Grande Valley

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced that its Harlington field office in the Rio Grande Valley seized a record 238 migrants in a single day, the highest daily total ever reported for the area. The operation, carried out across 14 counties in southern Texas, targeted individuals with criminal convictions, according to ICE director Juan Agudelo.

The surge in arrests has drawn criticism from advocacy groups and elected officials. Lawmakers highlighted the detention of a Nigerian nun, Letty Ugboaja, and the recent deaths of a Mexican and a Colombian migrant during ICE encounters, questioning the use of resources and the safety of enforcement tactics. ICE maintains the raids are intended to improve public safety and restore integrity to the immigration system.
