On Saturday morning, 4 July 2026, a trash‑bin ignited in the toilet of an Intercity‑Express (ICE) train near Kirchheim/Teck, Germany. The driver stopped the train and police and fire units were dispatched. Approximately 190 passengers remained on board while the affected carriage was evacuated. Five people, including the 51‑year‑old train conductor, suffered light smoke‑inhalation injuries and were treated on‑site.
A 31‑year‑old German man matching a witness description was found on the train, arrested by the Bundespolizei and later released after questioning.
