ICE vehicle rammed during traffic stop in Sanford, Maine
A driver allegedly rammed a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) vehicle during a traffic stop in Sanford, Maine, on Thursday morning. According to the Sanford Police Department, two ICE vehicles attempted to box in the driver’s car near Brook and High streets before the driver reversed into one of the agency's vehicles.
A 1-year-old child was found inside the driver's vehicle and was not properly secured in a safety seat. The child was transported to a local medical center out of an abundance of caution. Additionally, police discovered that the driver's other two children, aged 2 and 9, had been left unsupervised at a nearby home. They were subsequently taken into the custody of the Maine Department of Health and Human Services.
The incident follows recent scrutiny of ICE tactics in the region, including a fatal shooting of a Colombian man by an agent in Biddeford, Maine, in July.
