Ice Water Method Restores Wilted Lettuce Freshness

A simple ice‑water soak can quickly revive limp lettuce and other leafy greens by rehydrating the cells and slowing spoilage. Submerge trimmed leaves in a bowl of ice‑cold water for 10‑30 minutes, gently agitating them to restore crispness.

Alternative home tricks include a lemon‑juice soak (one tablespoon lemon juice per cup of cold water for five minutes) which adds acidity to curb bacterial growth, and a vinegar rinse (one part vinegar to three parts cold water) that acts as a natural preservative. After any revival method, dry the greens thoroughly and store them in an airtight container with paper towels in the refrigerator’s crisper drawer to maintain texture.

These techniques apply to lettuce, spinach, kale and similar salad greens, extending shelf life and improving salad quality without waste.
