ICEA reports show digital growth and broker dominance in Spanish insurance
Recent data from ICEA highlights evolving trends in the Spanish insurance sector regarding digital communication and distribution channels.
In home insurance, one in five claims is now initiated through digital channels such as websites, mobile applications, or WhatsApp. While theft claims show high levels of digitalization, water damage and DIY services—which represent a higher volume of claims—currently show lower digital adoption, indicating an opportunity for insurers to expand these tools.
Regarding travel insurance, insurance brokers remain the primary distribution channel. Approximately 89.5% of surveyed companies utilize brokers, who also account for 33.9% of new premium volume. Linked agents are also significant, used by 73.7% of companies. The industry is increasingly adopting multi-channel strategies, with 78.9% of insurers utilizing more than one distribution method to reach diverse customer profiles.
