Iceland aquaculture sector shows strong growth potential

Iceland's aquaculture sector is experiencing significant growth and interest. A report by Boston Consulting Group (BCG) indicates that traditional aquaculture is expected to remain the largest producing sector in the country by 2032. Industry leaders, including the CEO of Arctic Fish, note that the sector is attracting increased attention from the global supply industry, highlighted by Mowi's acquisition of Arctic Fish in 2022.

Experts suggest that Icelandic waters provide optimal conditions for salmon farming, positioning the nation as a significant player in sea-cage production with substantial growth potential. The Iceland Aquaculture & Oceans Forum (IAOF) has been established to support sustainable practices within the industry.

Complementing this industrial growth, the IceFish 2026 exhibition will be held in Kópavogur from September 22–24. The event aims to showcase global seafood innovations, including new technologies in vessel operations, fire safety, and data-driven fishing systems, while providing networking opportunities for professionals across the seafood supply chain.
