Iceland car crash kills three young people, including Irish teenager

Three young people were killed in a car accident on Krýsuvíkurvegur, approximately 29km south of Reykjavík, Iceland. The vehicle, a BMW, left the road in the early hours of Monday.

Among the victims was 18-year-old Hannah Jane Large from Greystones, Co Wicklow, Ireland. The other two deceased have been identified as 21-year-old Benjamín Guðmundsson and 16-year-old Arndís Halla Guðlaugsdóttir, both of whom were understood to be Icelandic.

Icelandic President Halla Tómasdóttir expressed condolences on social media, noting the tragedy serves as a reminder of how ‘precious and fragile’ life is. Ireland’s Department of Foreign Affairs confirmed it is aware of the incident and is providing consular assistance to the family.
