Iceland Foods partners with Retail Insight to reduce food waste using AI

Iceland Foods has partnered with Retail Insight to implement the AI-powered WasteInsight platform across its stores to combat food waste. The technology analyzes various operational data points to identify products at risk of expiring and recommends optimized markdowns.

This approach aims to protect profit margins while ensuring stock is cleared effectively. By moving away from manual processes and retrospective reporting, the system allows store teams to intervene earlier and more proactively. According to Martin Rigby, General Manager of EMEA and APAC for Retail Insight, the goal is to use data to identify where action is needed before waste actually occurs.

Steve Shirley, stores director at Iceland Foods, stated that reducing food waste is a key priority for the retailer and that the partnership will help improve decision-making consistency across store operations through AI-driven intelligence.
