Iceland glacier river accident kills Polish tourist

A 39-year-old Polish tourist has died after falling into the Jökulsá á Brú glacier river in the Stuðlagil Canyon, located in eastern Iceland. The incident occurred on Monday at approximately 13:15 local time.

Following the accident, a large-scale search operation was launched involving police, medical rescuers, and an Icelandic Coast Guard helicopter. After several hours of searching, authorities located the man's body at approximately 22:00, trapped within an underwater cave.

A tour guide present at the canyon reported hearing screams and witnessing the man in the river. She noted that the river's extremely strong currents and icy conditions made it impossible for anyone on the scene to enter the water safely to attempt a rescue.
