Iceland summons US Ambassador after Trump's map post

Iceland has initiated a diplomatic protest following a social media post by Donald Trump on Truth Social. The post featured a map depicting North America, including Canada, Greenland, Mexico, and Iceland, all covered by the United States flag and labeled as the 'United States of America'.

Icelandic Foreign Minister Þorgerður Katrín Gunnarsdóttir summoned US Ambassador Billy Lange to express that the post was 'completely inappropriate'. Icelandic Prime Minister Kristrún Frostadóttir also condemned the map as 'absurd' and an insult to the sovereignty of Iceland, Canada, and Greenland.

In Denmark, Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen reiterated that the government and people of Greenland have repeatedly stated they do not wish to be part of the United States. The incident occurs amid heightened geopolitical interest in the Arctic region.
