Iceland transport agreement costs rise to 311 million ISK

The transport agreement for the capital area in Iceland has undergone a significant update, with costs rising from 120 million ISK to 311 million ISK. This represents a 2.5-fold increase since the agreement was originally drafted in September 2019.

Critics note that a substantial portion of the increased costs, approximately 143 million ISK, is expected to be funded through rapid and traffic fees, placing the financial burden on the public. There are also concerns regarding the delay in implementing technological solutions for traffic light systems, which were intended to be addressed 'immediately' to improve traffic flow by up to 40%.

The Centre Party has called for the immediate execution of these traffic light improvements as a prerequisite for further state involvement in regional transport infrastructure development.
