Iceland utilizes geothermal energy for nationwide heating

Iceland has established one of the world's most efficient heating models by utilizing its volcanic activity to provide geothermal energy. The country sits atop an active volcanic zone where water is naturally heated at high temperatures underground.

This resource is channeled through centralized urban heating networks that distribute hot water directly to homes, eliminating the need for individual boilers or electric radiators. Approximately 90% of the nation's housing uses this model, which provides stable warmth regardless of weather conditions.

Because the system relies on renewable geothermal energy rather than fossil fuels or conventional electricity, it remains unaffected by fluctuations in gas or electricity prices. This infrastructure also avoids carbon dioxide emissions, positioning Iceland as a global benchmark for energy sustainability.
