Icelandic achievements in chess and gastronomy
Icelandic chess player Björn Þorfinnsson expressed disappointment regarding the national team's performance at the Chess Olympiad. Despite strong momentum, including victories against South Korea and Japan and a draw against Italy, the team suffered a significant loss to Denmark. This setback impacted their final standing, moving them from 48th to 58th place on the strength list. Þorfinnsson emphasized the importance of maintaining Iceland's international reputation in the chess world.
In the culinary sector, Icelandic chef Arnór Ingi Bjarkason has gained recognition in Lithuania. After working at various establishments, including the Michelin Green Star recipient Red Brick, Bjarkason opened his own restaurant, Skog, in Vilnius in 2025. The restaurant focuses on Nordic culinary philosophy using Lithuanian ingredients, and it is currently listed in the Michelin Guide.
