Wage Statistics Committee releases 2026 spring report on labor trends
The Wage Statistics Committee has released its spring report for 2026, detailing economic trends, the labor market, and wage developments. The report covers the current bargaining cycle that began in February 2024, noting that approximately 260 collective agreements have been signed for the majority of workers.
Data specifically regarding BHM members shows that between February 2024 and January 2026, basic hourly wages for BHM members increased by 17.6% in the general labor market. In comparison, wage increases were 13.6% for the state, 10.8% for the City of Reykjavík, and 12.2% for municipalities outside of Reykjavík. The report notes that differences in measured increases between markets are likely due to the timing of wage hikes rather than differences in agreement content.
