Laugarneshverfi residents report dangerous speeding near Laugarnesskóli

Residents in the Laugarneshverfi neighborhood are expressing serious concerns regarding increased traffic speeds and dangerous driving near Laugarnesskóli. The issue has escalated following the commencement of construction work on Reykjavegur.

City council member Þorvaldur Davíð Kristjánsson highlighted the danger, noting that his family has witnessed speeding, particularly on Gullteigur and Kirkjuteigur. He emphasized that the safety of children traveling to school daily must be a priority and called for immediate police speed enforcement.

Margrét Rós Sigurjónsdóttir, a representative for Laugardalur, echoed these concerns, reporting instances of large vehicles driving at high speeds while drivers were distracted by mobile phones. She noted that the city is currently reviewing potential measures to slow traffic, and construction on Reykjavegur is expected to continue until November 10.
