Icelandic Film ‘The Love That Remains’ Opens in Mexico and Draws Argentine Review
The Icelandic drama ‘The Love That Remains’ (original title Ástin sem eftir er), directed by Hlynur Pálmason, will debut in Mexican theatres on 31 July, distributed by Lool Films. The film, a co‑production of Iceland, Denmark, Sweden and France, premiered in the Cannes Premiere section in 2025 and later screened at the Guadalajara International Film Festival. It follows a year‑long separation of a rural Icelandic family, structured around the four seasons, and features a dog named Panda that won the Palm Dog award at Cannes.
In Argentina, a critic’s review notes the film’s striking visual composition and strong performances but argues that its formal experimentation hinders emotional engagement. The reviewer praises the Icelandic landscape and the cinematography while questioning the narrative’s depth, describing the movie as a visually beautiful but overly abstract work.
