Iceland regional updates: municipal planning, cultural events, and infrastructure
Various regional developments and cultural events are taking place across Iceland. In Grímsnes- og Grafningshreppur, plans are underway to renew the Selfoss line by installing underground cables. Flóahreppur is considering a new local plan for residential plots near Hvítá, while Hrunamannahreppur proposes low-rise residential development at Silfurtún.
In Kópavogur, the Prevention Fund has allocated grants to projects supporting the well-being and health of children and youth, including social activities and literacy initiatives. Meanwhile, in Akureyri, the municipality is celebrating its anniversary with approximately 100 cultural events, including exhibitions, concerts, and markets.
Other notable updates include infrastructure repairs in Mosfellsbær's Akurholt area to address water and heating leaks, and concerns raised regarding how new buildings in Nýja Skerjafjörður might create dangerous wind gusts over the Reykjavík Airport runway. Additionally, the Vestmannaeyjar Chess Club will hold tournaments to mark its 100th anniversary.
In the arts, the Icelandic film ‘Ástin sem eftir er’ has been nominated for the Nordic Council Film Prize 2026.
