Icelandic parliament debates EU resource sovereignty and tighter name‑change rules

Member of the Icelandic parliament Dagur B. Eggertsson announced he will move his regular editorial column, which addressed EU accession talks and the need for constitutional guarantees over Iceland’s natural resources, to an independent platform.

Separately, MP Sigurður Helgi Pálmason proposed a bill that would prohibit people convicted of serious crimes from changing their name, citing the case of convicted offender Mohamad Kourani who recently altered his name to resemble that of the Icelandic president. The proposal aims to protect public safety and maintain trust in the civil‑registration system.
