ICGEB launches 2026 short‑term PhD fellowships and junior research positions
The International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB) announced the Arturo Falaschi Short‑term PhD Fellowship programme for 2026. The competitive fellowships are open to pre‑doctoral researchers from ICGEB member states and provide placements in the centre’s laboratories in Trieste (Italy), New Delhi (India) and Cape Town (South Africa). Stipends range from €1,500 per month in Italy to US$1,122 in India and ZAR 16,500 in South Africa, with durations of one to twelve months, travel support and health insurance.
In parallel, ICGEB’s New Delhi site issued a vacancy notice for two Junior Research Fellow (JRF) positions in the Microbial Engineering Group led by Dr Shams Yazdani. One post is funded by a government programme and the other by an industrial partner; both focus on lignin valorisation and biomanufacturing using bacterial strain and metabolic engineering. Appointments are initially for one year, renewable subject to performance and funding, with salaries set according to DST norms. The deadline for applications is 26 July 2026.
