Icheon and Yeosu advance implementation of local government pledges

South Korean municipalities Icheon and Yeosu are advancing the implementation phases of their respective sixth-term local government pledges.

In Icheon, Mayor Seong Su-seok has initiated a comprehensive review of 106 major projects and pledges. The city’s strategy focuses on connecting semiconductor-driven growth to local economies, including agriculture and small businesses. Key objectives include establishing an ‘Icheon-style basic society’ to reduce disparities in housing, transport, and healthcare, alongside infrastructure development aimed at balancing urban and rural living conditions by 2027.

In Yeosu, Mayor Seo Young-hak held a report session to examine the direction, funding, and legal frameworks for 77 pledged items. The city is refining these plans by integrating suggestions from citizen committees and will finalize detailed execution plans following expert and public consultation. To ensure transparency, Yeosu plans to establish a citizen evaluation group and disclose progress regularly via its official website.
