Icheon Mayor announces 1.46 trillion won development plan
Icheon Mayor Seong Su-seok has announced a comprehensive administrative plan valued at approximately 1.46 trillion won to drive the city's future growth. The plan includes 79 core pledge projects and 27 additional tasks focused on transforming Icheon into a high-tech hub.
A primary objective is the establishment of a 150,000-pyeong semiconductor research complex. This initiative aims to position Icheon as a center for research and development (R&D), materials, components, and equipment, as well as a hub for fabless semiconductor design companies. This move is intended to mitigate concerns regarding the potential loss of direct investment from SK Hynix due to the acceleration of the Yongin semiconductor cluster.
Other key initiatives include the establishment of the Icheon City Urban Corporation by December 2027 to lead station area developments and small-scale industrial complex creation. Additionally, the city plans to modernize its agricultural sector through the construction of an advanced livestock and agricultural products distribution center and support for eco-friendly farming practices.
