Icheon vehicle attack sparks criticism of police investigation suspension
A dashcam video showing a vehicle attack on a road in Icheon, Gyeonggi Province, has sparked controversy regarding police responsiveness. The footage, featured on the YouTube channel ‘Hanmooncheol TV’, depicts a vehicle chasing and blocking another driver. According to the victim, two unidentified individuals, suspected to be foreigners, exited their vehicle to threaten the driver; one allegedly kicked the car's hood while another approached with an object resembling a weapon.
National Assembly member Na Kyung-won criticized the police response, labeling the situation a “serious dereliction of duty.” She noted that the victim was reportedly told by authorities to “give up” because the perpetrator's vehicle could not be identified. Na called for a thorough investigation and strict disciplinary action against the officers involved, expressing concern over declining public safety.
Icheon Police Station stated that the investigation was suspended on the 15th after 50 days of effort. Officials explained that the lack of CCTV footage and the darkness of the nighttime dashcam recording prevented the identification of key clues. The police noted they will resume the investigation if new evidence or tips emerge.
